The Republican clowns are beating each other up. Liberals are happier with the president. And the unemployment rate dropped to a three-year low. This is as good as it gets.
As Senator John McCain accidentally endorses his former-rival Mr. Obama for another term at a Mitt Romney (“Pale Pastel” if you will) rally and more disturbing Rick Santorum soundbites are released, President Obama roared into the new year with some of the best news he has received in months -- an 8.5 percent unemployment rate, the lowest level since February 2009, the month after he stepped into office. Maybe it’s time to start calling the glass half full.

Two very different articles were released this week -- the first from National Public Radio discussing clean energy and the other from the New York Times reporting on a bomb in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In Afghanistan, a fuel tanker with a bomb hidden on board exploded on the road to Bagram Air Base, setting off an inferno that killed at least 10 people and left dozens more badly burned, more critically. The tanker was carrying several tons of oil bound for NATO forces at Bagram, the coalition's main air base and logistical hub for military operations throughout Afghanistan. This troubling headline occurred while NPR reported that the U.S. military boosted clean energy with assistance of some startups.

As the Arab Spring continues to blossom to its fullest potential, flipping the status quo in Tunisia, Egypt, and now Libya, many serious questions remain intact.

The 100,000th GOP presidential debate was held Tuesday in the good ol’ state of New Hampshire. Cricket, cricket. As if it were rehearsed, the eight crazies put on yet another show, popping pizza jokes to even calling for war on China. Though, I’m still bewildered why the debate wasn’t hosted by Comedy Central. Charlie Rose is the bomb-diggity -- don’t get me wrong, but stand-up comedy doesn’t seem to flow too well with Bloomberg TV.

On September 17, 2011, one of the most notable protests in recent history began: Occupy Wall Street. This group, which is very much an amalgam of people of differing political beliefs with different demands, has occupied Wall Street since the 17th and says they will not stop until their demands are met. Many are making comparisons of Occupy Wall Street to the Arab Spring revolts that recently occurred in the Middle East. Supporters of the movement have praised its attempt to take down the so-called “Fat Cats” of Wall Street while the critics have said it is simply class warfare.
